Dracaena, from the Latin Dracāena, belong to the genus of plants from the Asparagus family and are trees or succulent shrubs. According to various sources, the number of species varies from 40 to 150. A significant part of the species grows in Africa. Several varieties can be found in southern Asia. The only species grows in the tropics in Central America.

General characteristics of the plant

Dracaena Compacta is a member of the species Dracaena fragrans (fragrant dracaena). This plant is characterized by decorativeness and has a fairly long and very similar to the stem stem part. When grown as a houseplant, Dracaena Compacta can reach a height of 2 m. The diameter of the plant varies from 1 to 1.5 m. Dracaena of this kind is extraordinarily stable and viable.

Dracaena compact: home care

Home Care

Compact Dracaena Care is characterized by standard measures suitable for any other types of dracaena.

Choosing a place to place

The compact does not tolerate bright lighting. For such a plant, an angle remote from the windows is ideal where diffused light will fall onto the dracaena. Dracaena of this kind prefers constancy, so the flower should be moved as rarely as possible. In the summer, it is advisable to take the plant to a loggia, protected from draft and sudden gusts of wind.

Climate requirements

The homeland of dracaena is hot countries, which explains the love of this tropical plant for high temperature and humidity. The compact is recommended to be placed in the warmest room, where the temperature in the winter does not fall below 18 degrees.

Florists should remember that for dracaena, a temperature below 12 degrees of heat is fatal. In the summer, the plant easily tolerates a temperature increase of up to 30 degrees. However, the high temperature in the room requires an artificial increase in humidity.

Once every two weeks, to ensure aeration of the soil around the root system, it is recommended to carefully loosen the soil in a pot.

Top dressing

The feeding procedures for Compact dracaena should be carried out from the beginning of spring to the end of the summer period. It is recommended to use special liquid fertilizers that have a high percentage of phosphorus, as well as potassium and nitrogen. After diluting such fertilizer according to the attached instructions, it should be applied to the soil during watering no more than twice a week.

Watering

Compact dracaena watering needs to be made frequent and quite plentiful. In summer, such events are held daily. In winter, the frequency of watering should be reduced to two times a week. The grower should keep track of the topsoil and at the first sign of drying, water at room temperature.

Leaf care

It is very important to regularly spray dracaena leaves at room temperature. The plant is responsive to an outdoor shower, which allows you to refresh it and remove dust deposits. You can not leave after this procedure a drop of water in the axils of the leaves, which very often causes the plants to rot. Particular attention should be paid to regular spraying of leaves from the underside.

Compact dracaena transplant

Dracaena requires periodic transplantation. Transplanting an adult plant is recommended no more than once every three years. A young flower is allowed to be transplanted more often. It is advisable to perform a transplant in spring, when the plant awakens from the winter dormant period and is set up to activate growth processes.

It should be remembered that each subsequent transplant requires an increase in the size of the diameter of the flower pot by an average of 4 cm. It is important to give preference to the landing capacity of any natural material. Such a flower pot passes air well to the root system of the plant and does not allow moisture to stagnate.

It is better to get the soil for Compact compacta in a garden center or flower shop. It is recommended to use a special planting primer for indoor flowers, enriched with a full complex of vitamins and minerals. but independent production of the substrate is also allowed.

Planting substrate should consist of equal parts of deciduous land, peat and sifted river sand with the addition of a small amount of charcoal. The last component is very important for the plant and relates to prophylactic against rotting the root system of the compact dracaena.

The bottom of the landing tank should be covered with a layer of high-quality drainage, which will prevent stagnation of moisture inside the soil.

Compact Dracaena propagation

There are three main ways to propagate Compacta Dracaena at home:

  • propagation using apical cuttings;
  • propagation using pieces of trunks;
  • propagation using seed material.

The first option, which consists in trimming the top of the flower and placing the resulting cuttings in a container with water and a few drops of heteroauxin, has gained the greatest popularity. After the appearance of the roots, the plant is planted in flower soil. Further care is carried out according to the standard scheme.

The use of stem pieces for propagation requires the experience of a grower. The rooting of such material should occur in a special film greenhouse under the condition of nutritious soil, high humidity and temperature not lower than 25 degrees.

The most difficult way to reproduce is to grow Compacta dracaena from seeds. This method is laborious, requires experience and is very rarely used by amateur gardeners.

Diseases and ways to combat them

Subject to the cultivation technology and providing the plant with the proper care, Dracaena Compacta is practically not sick. The main problems are associated with the deterioration of the leaves of this indoor flower:

  • withering and drying of the leaves may be the result of insufficient watering or the use of cold water;
  • the appearance of bleached dry spots on the leaves indicates that the plant has received burns under the influence of sunlight;
  • blackening of the tips of the leaves is most often the result of very dry indoor air.

It should be borne in mind that yellowing of the lower leaves on the compacta dracaena is a normal and natural process. Green leaf coloration is characteristic of all dracaena exclusively in the upper part of the stem.

Types of dracaena

The root system of the compact dracaena requires special attention. Excessive soil moisture often causes rotting of the root system. It is extremely rare to observe the defeat of the plant by the scale, spider mites and mealybugs, which are easily destroyed with the help of the drug "Vertimek". Processing is carried out in accordance with the attached instructions.

Even a novice grower can grow the compacta dracaena: it is only necessary to carry out standard care measures - regular watering and spraying, timely dressing and transplanting.
