Grapes “Galahad” refers to varieties with very high taste characteristics known and popular among gardeners. This hybrid form stably takes leading positions in tastings.

Grade characteristics

The hybrid form of grapes called “Galahad” was obtained as a result of pollination of the hybrid “Talisman” with the pollen of the “Muscat Delight” grape variety. The originator is VNIIViV them. J.I. Potapenko.

Grapes "Galahad": variety description

Biological description of the plant

Grapes "Galahad" refers to table varieties with early harvest maturity. From the beginning of the vegetative period to the collection of a fully usable crop, 95 to 100 days pass. Depending on the climatic conditions in the viticulture area, the harvest time may vary. As a rule, mass grapes are harvested in the last decade of July.

The plant forms bushes quite vigorous, with well-ripening shoots. The type of flowering is bisexual, which implies excellent independent pollination. Grape brushes are characterized by very large sizes, relatively dense berry fit and average weight from 0.6 to 1.25 kg. The standard form of the grape cluster is cylindrical.

Technical characteristics of berries

For grapes of the hybrid form “Galahad”, the formation of oval-ovoid berries of amber-yellow color with a size of 2.7 x 2 cm is characteristic. The fully ripened berries are very large and weigh about 12 g. The pulp is characterized by meatiness, covered with a moderately dense skin, which is completely eatable.

This hybrid form is characterized by very high taste indices. The tasting score is 8.9 points. Sugar content varies from 18 to 21 g / 100 cm3. Acidity does not exceed 5-6 g / dm3.

Hybrid Shape Benefits

“Galahad” grapes, in addition to very high taste indices, have several more indisputable advantages that make the hybrid form in demand:

  • fruit bearing coefficient varies from 1.3 to 1.5;
  • the number of fruitful shoots is from 60% to 75%;
  • the hybrid form is resistant to gray rot, has medium resistance to mildew and oidium damage;
  • frost resistance reaches -25 ° C;
  • transportability indicators are very good;
  • ripe berries are not prone to cracking;
  • Wasps damage grapes extremely weakly.

The combination of early ripeness, plant resistance to various adverse factors and marketability of the crop makes this hybrid form the undeniable leader among similar forms of grapes.

Rules for planting seedlings

“Galahad” grapes should be cultivated in areas with well-warmed up sun, light and fertile soils. Acquired seedlings must be healthy and have developed roots. In preparing them for planting, you should refresh the root system, and then lower the roots into the talker.

Standard planting of seedlings is performed according to the following instructions:

  • digging holes should be dug at least a month before planting;
  • the size of each hole should correspond to the size of the root system with a margin on the layer of drainage and fertilizer;
  • with a close occurrence of groundwater, it is necessary to equip the highest quality drainage from gravel or small stone;
  • in the center of the landing hole you need to fix a peg or reinforcement to fix the vines in an upright position.

When planting, you should carefully spread the root system of the seedling, cover it with a layer of prepared fertile soil mixture, compact and pour plenty of water with plenty. After irrigation, the soil may settle, in this case, it is necessary to replenish the soil. Planted plants should be carefully fixed on pegs.

Care Features

“Galahad” grapes, like most new hybrid forms, are not too demanding, and they respond to all agrotechnical events with stable and high yields.

Watering and feeding

The hybrid form of “Galahad” needs proper and timely watering. The standard rate of water consumption for irrigation activities is about 30 liters per grape bush. The volume of water may vary depending on the phase of vegetation, as well as weather conditions and soil type. Watering the vineyard is recommended weekly. In dry and hot weather, the frequency of watering increases.

Fertilizers should be applied under grape bushes in the fall and in the spring period of awakening. The main and most convenient organic fertilizer to use is any manure except pig. In addition, the soil should be enriched with systematic application of mineral and complex fertilizers.

Cropping and shaping

Galahad grapes are very harvested. The crop pruning in the first four or five years is carried out in order to properly form the vine bush. For this high-yielding hybrid form, the optimal load on the bush is about 30-35 eyes. Pruning vines for fruiting should be carried out on 6-8 eyes.

Reviews of winegrowers

Grapes "Galahad", or, as many amateur gardeners call it, "Halahard", is recognized by most winegrowers as an exemplary achievement. However, this form is quite new and not fully understood. Evaluate the characteristics stated in the description will be possible only after some time.

According to most gardeners growing this hybrid form, Galahard grapes are quite worthy of taking pride of place not only in personal plots, but also in vast areas of farm vineyards. The variety has virtually no flaws. The only disadvantage noted by gardeners is the tendency of completely ripe berries to fall. However, timely harvesting helps minimize losses.
