The bailer is a drilling tool, with the help of which the lifting of liquid, sand and dirt to the surface is carried out. In addition, the bailer can be involved in drilling operations on soils such as sand, quicksand or gravel soils.
Characteristics and purpose of the flap
The use of baits is in demand for shock-rope drilling of any loose rocks or quicksand. A similar tool is widely used at the stage of thinning water with soil at the level of aquifers. In the process of percussion drilling on water, the bobbin allows test pumping. In addition, through this unit, cement mortars are delivered to the well.
Types of bailer
A drill bit is a device by which a well can be cleaned quickly and efficiently. Such equipment with a simple design is able to replace expensive equipment.
Currently, several varieties of baits are used, which, like the drilling process itself, have certain features.
|Variety of baits||The purpose of the flap||Design features|
|Hemispherical valve||Drilling of wells in sandy soils, sandy loam, quicksand, destroyed rocks. Cleaning the well in solid rocks from sludge. Pumping fluid from wells||Cylinder with an eye in the upper part, used for fastening to a rod or cable. The lower part has the shape of a hemisphere, equipped with a valve with a spear to adjust the process of the piston stroke and loosening of rock|
|Piston and clamshell||This equipment is ideally suited for work on sinking quicks and aquifers||A cylindrical pipe with a shoe welded or screwed to the bottom with a poppet valve. The upper part along the axis is equipped with a bolt with a passing rod. The lower part ends with a piston with a valve, which opens during lowering of the choke and closes as a result of raising|
|Pneumatic chipper||Used in drilling and testing passable formations||The process of filling and unloading is carried out under the influence of excess pressure, which is created in the sand and air chambers|
How to make a do-it-yourself bailer
Do-it-yourself baffle is easy to make. First of all, it is necessary to determine the type of design that is optimal for a particular type of well. The simplest kind of bailer, which can be performed independently, is a device equipped with a check valve.
How to get quicksand bouncer
The following tools and materials will be needed to make the bailer:
- welding machine;
- a grinder or hacksaw for metal work;
- a metal pipe about 80 cm long, 59 cm in diameter;
- metal cable;
- metal grate;
- rubber or metal ball with a diameter of 40 mm.
An adhesive may be required for manufacture.
Drawing up a drawing
A drawing up independently should take into account:
- the presence of slots for draining in the upper part;
- equipping the bottom of the washer;
- the location of the ball with the installation of the limiter in the form of a metal pin, which is fixed at the height of its three radii;
- sharpening the bottom of the workpiece to facilitate the passage of soil.
A loop should be provided at the upper end to secure the cable. In order to make the structure heavier, it is allowed to use both a metal load and a concrete “cork” on the upper part.
With self-made baits, the following sequence of actions should be followed:
- Weld a thick washer as a bottom on the bottom of the pipe. It is allowed to use the washer with a flat and even lower part or surface in the form of a return funnel.
- The upper part of the washer should have the shape of a funnel with a "saddle" fitted to the diameter of the sphere.
- Weld on the upper part of the pipe a metal or from the thickest wire grid, which will protect the ball from flying out of the structure.
- Weld on top of the grill on the upper part of the pipe an arc-eye to which the working cable will be fixed.
After checking the weight and operability of the structure, it is allowed to weight the tool in any convenient way.

The use of baits for drilling wells
The advantages of using the bobbin in the drilling process are represented by ease of use, a quick and easy manufacturing process, efficiency, the ability to independently carry out the process and cost-effectiveness.
If necessary, the cable should be replaced with drill rods made of gas pipes with a diameter of 3.3, 4.2 or 4.8 cm. The principle of the shock-rope method of drilling is to raise and lower the flap to the very bottom of the well. As a result of such actions, cutting and grabbing of the soil is carried out with its subsequent excavation to the surface.
How to clean a borehole
Equipped with a long and sturdy cable, the bellow is lowered into the well to the bottom. At the next stage, the structure should be raised half a meter from the bottom surface upwards and immediately sharply lowered. In the process of such manipulations, the ball jumps up under the influence of water hammer, followed by the opening of the hole in the bottom of the chipper. Through a hole in the pipe, water is collected with sand, pebbles, mud and silt. Then the ball drops and the hole closes.
In order to fill the bailer more fully, you should repeat such movements at least 3-4 times, and then without jerking, slowly and smoothly remove the bailer from the well and pour out the accumulated content. In order to greatly facilitate the work on lifting the baits, it is recommended to use a collar.
A feature of the design of the baffle is the ability to clean about three centimeters of the layer of the well in the course of one lift. In order to avoid significant siltation, it is recommended to carry out an approximate calculation of the depth that requires cleaning, and set up a schedule for cleaning work in the future.
Tips & Tricks
When working on loose and loose soils, it is recommended to use a more massive choke, the length of which should be about 3.5 m. The elongated design allows you to simultaneously raise a large amount of rock, but requires the use of casing. Sandy soil should be watered during operation, which will reduce the risk of soil shedding.
For work on hard soils, it is advisable to equip the structure with special “teeth”, or tapering, which will allow the bollard to more easily crash into the ground. It is also necessary during the work to use a bit lowered into the adit in order to grind the rock.
How to make a do-it-yourself well
Drilling on viscous soils such as clay or loam involves the use of a narrower but longer “window”, which greatly facilitates the extraction of contents. Casing pipes in this case become optional. When passing quicksand it is necessary to create a weight that will prevent equipment from getting stuck in the ground.
