Chrysanthemums, or Chrysanthemum, belong to the genus of annual and perennial herbaceous plants. They are representatives of the Aster family, or Compositae. Of the diversity of these flowering plants in open ground in the middle zone of Russia, the most commonly grown are spherical chrysanthemums "Multiflora", due to their high decorativeness.
Features of Chrysanthemum Multiflora
The plant belongs to a new line of curb super-low growing chrysanthemums. Does not need supports, tying and any additional conditions for the formation of bushes. It is independently formed in spherical bushes, which are strewn with flowers. The foliage behind the flowers is not noticeable.
According to the type of flowering chrysanthemums "Multiflora" are divided:
- on early flowering, with flowering in August;
- medium flowering, with flowering in September;
- medium late flowering, in late September - October.
The sizes of plants can be adjusted by selecting the optimal planting dates, as well as using various varieties:
- super low, with a height and diameter of the bush from 20 to 30 cm;
- medium-sized, with a height and diameter of the bush from 30 to 40 cm;
- tall, with a height and diameter of the bush from 60 to 70 cm.
In addition, indicators of plant size very often depend on growing conditions and weather factors in the region.
A significant disadvantage of flower culture is the lack of winter hardiness. In snowy and frosty winters, plants can freeze even under shelters.
Chrysanthemum "Multiflora": planting and care
Multiflora is one of the early flowering chrysanthemums, which is why Russian flower growers liked it. This popular group includes a sufficient number of varieties that bloom in open ground in September-October. At present, Multiflora is at the very peak of gardening fashion and attention to it is only growing.

Reproduction is possible in several ways, which are quite simple and allow you to get high-quality flowering plants. Chrysanthemums can be propagated by seed, division of uterine bushes and cuttings.
Propagation by dividends
The uterine bush should be dug from the soil, which will allow you to get many new ones from one plant. Young shoots, on which the root system was formed, should be separated. Sometimes a sharp garden knife is required for separation. The resulting specimens should be planted separately after pinching the top, then water as abundantly as possible.
Propagation by green layering
Chrysanthemum multiplies beautifully by the method of green cuttings. Cut cuttings can be rooted both in a container with water and directly in the soil, providing easy shading. The soil layer in the pot for rooting green cuttings should be at least 12 cm. For the plant, the soil mixture consisting of river sand, perlite and light turf soil is optimal.
Quite often, in floriculture, a method of growing a variety of "Multiflora" from seeds is used.
|The name of the method||Sowing technology||Care Features|
|Direct sowing||Sowing is carried out in the last decade of April or early May. On flower beds, planting holes should be prepared with a distance of 25-27 cm between them, and then carefully spill them with water and place in a hole for a pair of seeds. Sprinkled crops should be covered with a film, which will accelerate the germination of seeds||It is necessary to carry out regular loosening of the soil, removal of weeds and fertilizing. The first top dressing is carried out ten days after the emergence of seedlings using the means of "Rainbow" or "Ideal". After two weeks, one plant should be left in each hole, having deposited all unnecessary to another place. Flowering occurs a month and a half after germination|
|Seedling method||Sowing for seedlings is carried out in February-March. Seeds should be scattered on top of the soil moistened from the spray gun and covered with a plastic wrap. Crops should provide a temperature of 23-25 ° C. It is required to periodically moisten the soil and ventilate the crops. After the appearance of a pair of leaves, picking and spraying with a solution of Zircon or Epin-Extra means||It is necessary to carry out regular watering and top dressing. Fertilizers are applied twice a month. Examination is recommended. High-quality seedlings have a strong stem and a height of about 20 cm. After planting in the flower garden, pinching of the crown of the seedling must be done|
The spherical chrysanthemums of "Multiflora" are quite unpretentious and can be grown not only in open flower beds, but also in containers, glazed greenhouses or in flower pots.
In central Russia, the most successful time for planting chrysanthemums is the first decade of May, in the presence of sufficiently warm weather. The growing area should have good sunshine and be protected from gusts of cold winds. If the soil in the flower garden is heavy and dense, it is necessary to improve the soil composition by applying sand and organic fertilizers. Rooting quickly and easily passes on loose and well-permeable water soils.

Care for the chrysanthemum "Multiflora"
Plants are not too demanding in care and need standard measures.
Chrysanthemum is very hygrophilous, therefore, before flowering, it must be watered abundantly. The frequency of application of moisture is completely dependent on weather conditions. The most frequent and plentiful watering is carried out on hot and dry days. In rainy weather, irrigation measures are not required. A good result in maintaining soil moisture shows a systematic loosening of soil around the bushes.
The spherical chrysanthemums of the Multiflora series are not very demanding on soil fertility in the flower garden and the qualitative composition of fertilizers. However, as a result of insufficient introduction of the main components of nutrition, as well as with a deficiency of trace elements, growth, bud development, and foliage chlorosis are very often slowed down. An excess of fertilizers causes fatliquoring of the bushes.
Fertilizing plants with the correct filling with fertilizers of the planting hole can be done once during the growing season. It is recommended to use a solution of mullein or bird droppings for this.
Features of growing chrysanthemum "Multiflora"
This plant absolutely definitely does not need special procedures for the formation ofthat is inherent in the features of genetics. It is undesirable to grow a flower on one site for more than two seasons. Prolonged cultivation in the same place often provokes degeneration and loss of a unique shape by the plant. Therefore, once every three years, bushes should be removed from the soil and transplanted.
Wintering in the open ground
If the plant is grown in the southern regions with a warm winter, then the bushes can not be covered, just spend their hilling and pour on top of dry foliage, wood shavings or other natural loose and light material. Many flower growers in the southern regions after flowering "Multiflora" are not cut, and over time, the leaves and stems of the plant fall, forming a fairly effective shelter.
Of course, such a variety of chrysanthemum as Multiflora is an ideal pot culture, it is best grown in large flowerpots. Capacities with plants for the winter period must be brought into a relatively warm room. When growing on flower beds, "Multiflora" should be covered for the winter without fail. These plants successfully winter in the open ground only if the preparatory measures are carried out correctly.
After the plants have bloomed, they should be cut to a height of 20 cm. You can not touch the root shoot. The trimmed bushes must be mulched with needles or straw, and then sprinkled with humus or peat crumb. For effective snow retention should cover the plants with spruce branches.
Chrysanthemums: Variety of Varieties
Since very old times, chrysanthemums were considered a symbol of nobility, happiness and belonged to the category of sacred plants. Spherical "Multiflora" compares favorably with other groups of this flowering plant with a chic selection of shades and relatively fast vegetation. In addition, this attractive chrysanthemum forms an attractive regular spherical shape, which is why it is often recommended by landscape designers to create complex decorative compositions.
