Few gardeners know how to properly grow peach or nectarine from pits at home. Nevertheless, almost everyone has such an opportunity. The main condition for obtaining a healthy and productive plant is compliance with planting technology and measures to care for the fruit crop.
Growing a peach tree or nectarine at home suggests the right choice of variety. To plant exotics at home, it is recommended to use the following varieties: peach "Early Rivers", nectarine "White", peach "Nobles" or "Minion early", nectarine "Pineapple".
These varieties have quite decent indicators of sustainability and productivity and have proven themselves when cultivated in difficult home conditions.
Preparation and planting of material
It is necessary to select the well-ripened fruits of varietal nectarines or peaches, and remove the seeds from them, which must be well and thoroughly cleaned from the pulp. The resulting planting material must be stored until stratification in a dry and relatively cool room. Stratify the peach or nectarine bones in a small container, which must be filled with wet sand or sawdust. In winter, the stratified bones in the early spring period burst, after which a sprout appears, which is planted in a flower pot with fertile soil.
It is allowed to grow peach or nectarine without using the stratification method. For this purpose, the bones extracted from the fruit pulp should be placed in water at room temperature for two days. As a result of such soaking, the seeds swell and increase in size, which indicates their readiness for planting in previously prepared soil. The best result is shown by the use of a soil mixture in the form of peat and humus, which are mixed in a ratio of 50:50%.
How to grow nectarine at home
Features of growing a tree at home
The room in which the fruit crop is grown should be regularly aired. Inadequate natural light should be corrected using artificial lighting. At the dormant stage, the fruit plant should be kept in a cool room, at a temperature of 2–5 ° С. In the spring, to obtain abundant flowering, the tree should be transferred to a room with a temperature of 14–16 ° С, and at the stage of ovary formation, the plant needs a temperature of at least 19–24 ° С.
Peach and nectarine seedlings need plentiful irrigation measures. Watering must be present at all stages of the growing season, except for the dormant and ripening phases of the fruit. Plants should be transplanted in the early spring or in early September to a pre-prepared soil mixture represented by turf soil, leaf humus, peat and sifted sand in a ratio of 1: 2: 1: 1.
For proper growth and full development, it is necessary to feed plants grown at home. The first feeding is carried out in the first decade of March, and the second - no later than the last days of August. For this purpose, it is recommended to add mineral compounds or use organic matter. Homemade peaches and nectarines require annual pruning and pinching of the most tall branches or shoots.
When growing a house, one should not forget about preventive measures aimed at protecting fruit plants from the most harmful diseases that can not only weaken the fruit tree, but also cause its death. Of course, at home, peach trees and nectarine seedlings are extremely rarely affected by pathogenic microflora, so there is a great opportunity to reduce the use of chemicals and give preference to the use of folk remedies based on herbal infusions.
If a seedling of peach or nectarine does not take root at home, then the causes of this phenomenon may be the following:
- failure to comply with the landing time;
- the variety must be zoned and adapted for cultivation in specific conditions;
- the root system must be powerful and absolutely healthy;
- when transplanting, the root neck of the plant should be correctly positioned;
- after planting and replanting, the plant should be pritenit, as well as provide it with full watering and proper care;
- the use of a root stimulant when performing planting and transplantation activities gives a good result.
Peach and Nectarine: Features of Growing
It is important to observe the temperature regime. As a rule, for the cultivation of peach and apricot at home, winter gardens or greenhouse constructions are used. Quite often, overgrown peach and nectarine trees need replanting in the open ground, which should be carried out in the early spring with the technology of planting fruit plants.
